A Portrait of Delilah from the Bible

Samson and Delilah

You cannot mention the name Delilah without mentioning the bible champion Samson.  Samson accomplished great feats with his strength.  His only weakness, like many men was a woman.  A woman who took advantage of his heart and destroyed him.  It says in many ways how much Samson loved Delilah, but the bible never states that Delilah actually loved Samson.  Samson had almost supernatural strength, he helped Israel when it was during one of their darkest times.  Samson was able to put Israel back out of these dark ages.

Delilah

Delilah was a beautiful, most likely a Philistine woman, who was approached by the Philistines to find out what Samson's weakness was.  Samson had so weakend the mighty Philistines they did not know what to do.  They approached her and paid her off to find the weakness of Samson.  Delilah so enchanted Samson, and would constantly ask where he got all of his strenght from.  The Bible does not tell us much about Delilah.  We don't know what her role was, was she a widow, was she a harlot?  All we know is that she took the money to take down the hero Samson.  Delilah used Samson's love for her to get the truth out.  He told her about his hair and she cut it off to weaken him.  She was handsomely paid for her deception.

The Portrait of Delilah

Here we have a portrait of Delilah from the Bible. Delilah was paid to find out the secret of Samson's strength. Samson fell in love with the beguiling woman. Eventually she found out that the source of Samon's strength is his hair. In the bible it never says if Delilah loved Samson back.

“How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when you won’t confide in me? This is the third time you have made a fool of me and haven’t told me the secret of your great strength.” Judges 16:15

In this portrait, I wanted to humanize Delilah and show that last moment of doubt before she does the deed and cuts Samson's hair.  The portrait is availible to purchase on our online gallery.
